Nondepository Licensing Information and Applications
The Banking Bureau of the Department of Insurance, Securities and Banking charters and regulates banks, savings banks, trust companies, and other financial institutions seeking to establish an office in the District where deposits or savings are received. The Bureau also regulates mortgage lenders, brokers and originators, check cashers, money transmitters, consumer sales finance companies, moneylenders, and operators of non-bank ATMs in the District. The District of Columbia intends to commence use of the Nationwide Mortgage Licensing System (NMLS) on August 1, 2009. Please be advised that DISB will continue to use its current licensing system and relevant forms and instructions available on the DISB website (disb.dc.gov) to facilitate the renewal of licenses that will expire on or before December 31, 2009.
